In 1996 Parliament passed the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act (Act No. 47 of 1996). This new act replaces the Marketing Act of 1968 and brings about deregulation in the South African agricultural industry. In order to implement the provisions of the Act the NAMC was established in January 1997. The NAMC is a statutory body established in terms of the Act to advise the Minister of Agriculture and the South African Agriculture Industry on matters relating to the marketing of agricultural products The Marketing and Economic Research Centre (MERC) was established to enhance the mandate of the NAMC through the MAP Act. MERC is involved in five main focusing areas namely: Mapping understanding and quantifying agro-food chains Trade Linking farmers to markets and market development Risk management Information management system This is done through research as commissioned by the NAMC or requested by directly affected groups. Examples of requested studies done by MERC lately are the “Functioning of the agricultural futures market for grains and oilseeds” and “The impact of the Namibian Small Stock Marketing Scheme on South Africa”. An internal study that was finalised this year was “The impact of market power and dominance of supermarkets on agricultural producers in South Africa: A case study of the South African dairy industry”. Other regular publications include: Quarterly Food Price Monitors for rural and urban areas Monthly NAMC-DAFF TradeProbe Various Input Cost Monitors Annual Food Cost review. Other areas were MERC is involved include collaboration with agribenchmark and two local universities to benchmark grain and beef farming internationally regular appearances at conferences and farmers days serve on industry committees and hosting of AEASA business office.

Flevoplant BV is a Dutch company that specializes in the field of strawberry plant propagation. We supply strawberry plants throughout Europe under Naktuinbouw certification according to the Elite system. Flevoplant has always been a pioneer in this industry and has invested a lot in the search for better varieties. This has resulted in the setting up of our own breeding program, resulting in a complete range of varieties with improved properties. In 2016 we made this program independent and it is now called Flevo Berry. Flevoplant continues to focus on propagating strawberry plants. Our objective: Extend the strawberry season for the grower by using the right varieties that complement each other. We call this the Flevo-Concept®

The National Swine Registry formed in 1994 as a result of the consolidation of the American Yorkshire Club the Hampshire Swine Registry and the United Duroc Swine Registry. In January 1998 the American Landrace Association joined the NSR. These four breed organizations are located in one central office in West Lafayette Ind. The NSR's services include litter registrations performance pedigrees breed promotion and marketing assistance. As well the NSR has created various educational materials including a swine-judging video. The NSR is capable of meeting all of your genetic needs including free genetic consultation across-herd genetic evaluations and a National Four-Breed Sire Summary. This National Sire Summary is published every six months and includes all trait leaders in each breed. The four breeds comprising the NSR are making significant contributions to the overall profitability of the swine industry. Irrigabras began its activities in 1985 as a completely Brazilian company located in Barueri SP. There are more than 30 manufacturers of irrigation and fertigation equipment such as: Central Pivot Irrigation Reel and Conventional Sprinkler System. It was a pioneer when it introduced aluminum tubes with stainless steel quick coupling onto the market for distributing effluents from ethanol production (vinasse) to farms. The Inno Al Sole dairy located in Grosseto produces mozzarella and buffalo milk cheeses under the La Maremmana brand. In the dairy we only use Maremma buffalo milk from our herd, in addition to hand-spun buffalo mozzarella, we produce burrata ricotta, yogurt and a variety of French-inspired mature blue and molded cheeses. In the store you can purchase and taste a range of excellent products from the dairy and other local companies such as cured meats and wines. On the days it is open to the public you can drink a coffee, have breakfast, buy fresh bread and milk, have lunch and have aperitifs taking advantage of the equipped and illuminated outdoor garden. It is also possible to enjoy buffalo ice cream produced by a local ice cream shop with our buffalo milk, yogurt and ricotta. The company organizes guided tours with tasting for groups and schools which include the dairy, breeding and renewable energy plant. In the summer period, a free guided tour is organized once a week. Visits for schools and other groups (minimum 10 people) are carried out throughout the year upon reservation.
