Pontual Wines
Pontual Wines was founded in 2000 by Paolo Fiuza Nigra Luís Bulhão Martins and Carlos Portas. The initials of each of them then gave the PLC project its name. On the rolling plain of Alentejo between Alandroal and Portalegre, the team gathers 100 hectares of vineyards. Planted in schist soils where indigenous grape varieties and others enhance the production of high quality wines. Pontual Wines bottled its first wine in 2001 Pontual Touriga Nacional/Trincadeira Preta. In the following years, PLC also launched the Pontual Syrah Pontual Reserva Branco Colheita and the new Desigual white and red range. Vineyards 100 hectares of vineyards between Alandroal and Portalegre, the land where the vines grow and the grape varieties planted were carefully chosen with the aim of enhancing the quality of the grapes and wines. The type of soil where the vines grow is schist. Grape Varieties In Whites: Antão Vaz Arinto Roupeiro Verdelho Perrum In Reds: Touriga Nacional Syrah Trincadeira Aragonês Alicante Bouschet and Cabernet Sauvignon Winemaking Methods We believe that the production of quality wines begins in the vineyard. Through careful selection of grapes taking into account their health status and stage of maturation. During the harvest, the grapes in the winery are processed with all the necessary care to preserve their full quality and potential. The vinification of the whites is carried out in stainless steel tanks with total stemming, pressing at low pressures and small amounts of decanting between 7 and 10° C. Fermentation is controlled at low temperatures between 13° C and 15° C until it is finished. In the red wines, vinification is carried out in stainless steel mills with total stemming and pre-fermentation maceration for 1 to 2 days.
